The Las Vegas office of Horrocks Engineers has an immediate opening for a traffic engineer with approximately 4-6 years of experience. Responsibilities will include obtaining traffic related data, providing travel demand modeling and traffic operations analysis, and preparing technical reports for all stages of project development, from planning studies to geometric design. A working knowledge and experience in the use of the latest transportation planning and traffic operations analysis software programs such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, CORSIM, TransCAD, and CUBE is desired. Additional responsibilities will include traffic design for signing/striping, signals and maintenance of traffic using the MUTCD and AASHTO manuals. While based in Las Vegas and primarily working on Nevada projects, the selected candidate will assist with projects throughout the Intermountain Region, including Arizona, Idaho and Utah. The Candidate will be part of a highly skilled design team with opportunities to work on innovative intersection/interchange projects. Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, cartography, computer science, or related field
    3-6+ years related experience desired

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, creating and managing web services
  • Proven experience working with web and mobile GIS applications, including ArcGIS Online
  • Ability to perform intermediate level of spatial analysis.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation interaction with GIS

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model builder and/or Python scripting experience
  • Familiarity with Esri’s Local Government Information Model
  • Skill in document preparation and making oral presentations
  • Skill in database architecture, data modeling, data normalization, data factoring, and archiving
  • Knowledge of ArcSDE database enterprise system, usage, maintenance, and management
  • SQL Server database knowledge
  • Familiarity with GPS data gathering techniques and “ground to grid” conversion
  • Knowledge of creating or working with custom coordinate systems

Position Available for Traffic Operations Engineer

Currently our Pleasant Grove, UT office has an exciting job opportunity for a self-motivated traffic operations engineer to join our team.  The candidate will need to demonstrate strong leadership and technical skills as it relates to traffic signal operations.  The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve clients by providing sound traffic engineering solutions
  • Provide management, supervision, and direction to other engineering and technical staff
  • Update and coordinate signal timing to maximize efficiency throughout signal systems
  • Develop innovative solutions and maintain a state of the art knowledge of traffic operations principles and techniques
  • Effectively communicate with clients and team members
  • Perform advanced technical analysis in the areas of traffic engineering, traffic data analysis, traffic signal timing, traffic signal design, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), etc.
  • Implement and coordinate field work necessary to implement and optimize signal timing strategies
  • Develop incident management signal timing plans to proactively meet the needs of the traveling public

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree Preferred)
  • PE license in the State of Utah, or ability to acquire within 6 months of being hired (PTOE Certification Preferred)
  • More than 5 years of progressively responsible experience in traffic operations
  • In-depth knowledge of traffic signal timing principles and traffic operations
  • Working knowledge of various traffic engineering tools including Synchro/Simtraffic, UDOT Signal Performance Metrics, Vissim, GIS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of UDOT traffic operations systems is preferred
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting traffic signal controllers

Position Available for Engineering Intern in our Pleasant Grove, UT office

Horrocks Engineers has an immediate opening for a part-time Engineering Intern in our Pleasant Grove office. Candidate must have an associate’s degree or equivalent general education, or be enrolled as a student pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering. Students must have completed their sophomore year in higher education. Candidate must have CAD experience, with preference given to Bentley Microstation. Preference will also be given to individuals with an understanding of fiber optics. The position is for an intern to be trained on fiber optic mapping and CAD drawing. Position requires walking outside for up to 1 mile at a time, field mapping using handheld GPS devices, drawing in a CAD environment, and requires lifting objects of up to 50 lbs.

Horrocks Engineers, a regional civil engineering company, is seeking a motivated and experience professional to supervise their Utah-based marketing team and coordinate marketing and work flow efforts regionally.
